What a good record contains

Your CPD recordFive things to keep
  • Activity & providerWhat the learning was, and who delivered it
  • Date & durationWhen it happened and how long it took
  • LearningWhat you learned, in a sentence or two
  • Change in practiceWhat you'll do differently as a result
  • EvidenceThe certificate, and its code if it can be verified

Keep it verifiable

A certificate is only as good as the check behind it.

CareCPD certificates carry a unique code that anyone can verify in seconds, and withdrawn certificates show as withdrawn.

If a certificate has no provider, no date and no way to check it, it won't carry much weight, whatever it says.

For managers:
the training matrix

One sheet, one row per person, one column per topic, with the date done and the date due.

Colour the overdue ones. Review it in every supervision and at every team meeting, and tie it to a written list of what's mandatory for each role.

  • Include agency and bank staff
  • Record the provider, not just the topic
  • Keep the certificates, or their codes, where the matrix points to them

For individuals:
build a portfolio

A folder, paper or digital, with your certificates and a short reflective log. Add to it the week the learning happens, not the month before an appraisal.

Your portfolio

When you move jobs,
it goes with you.

Before an inspection

  • Print or export the matrix as of today
  • Check that every certificate in it can be found
  • Spot-check five at random with the verifier
  • Make sure supervision notes mention training at least once per person
